Quantum Information Processing I: Concepts
The course investigates foundational principles and formalisms associated with quantum information processing. It examines quantum algorithms, quantum error correction, quantum cryptography, and quantum metrology, emphasizing the enhanced capabilities of quantum information processing in contrast to classical counterparts. Key areas covered in the course encompass gate-based quantum circuits, universality and efficiency of quantum computation, various quantum algorithms (such as Shor, Grover, Deutsch-Josza), stabilizer-based quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computation, quantum key distribution protocols, and protocols for quantum metrology.
Course part of the core courses of the Physics Master’s program at ETH Zürich.
Taught in: Spring 2022 and Spring 2023
Quantum Information Theory
This course introduces quantum information theory, covering the mathematical formulation of quantum theory and key tools such as entanglement, density operators, and quantum channels. It explores information-theoretic methods for analyzing foundational questions in physics. Practical applications include communication over noisy channels, uncertainty relations, randomness generation, entanglement distillation, and quantum cryptography security.
Course part of the elective courses of the Physics Master’s program at ETH Zürich.
